Slough from Above

Our Party has long been the party of enterprise, free-markets and business - and Slough is a town centred around business...

  • Has a population of 150,000, with nearly half originating
  • Is home to Slough Trading Estate – the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe with 500 businesses, with a working population of 20,000 and 400 tenants ranging from global multi-nationals to SMEs.
  • Has an ambitious regeneration plan for the town centre.
  • Is the third most productive town in the UK - It is also the happiest and youngest.
  • Has c4,600 thriving businesses based in Slough, many owned by people of Asian origin, accommodating around 87,000 jobs.
  • Has an average weekly salary of £616, which is above the UK average.
  • Is an important economic hub, straddling two of the UK’s leading engines of growth, West London and Thames Valley.
  • Is recognised as one of the 20 most competitive locations in the United Kingdom as the service, software and creative services, amongst many others, have significantly increased over recent years.
  • Will benefit further from the advent of Crossrail and the Western Rail Access to Heathrow, making it one of the most appealing places of destination from within the UK and overseas.

Despite these advantages, prosperity is not shared consistently across the town and health and social inequalities are widespread.

The business community, a substantial proportion of which are small and medium enterprises, faces many challenges, and need a voice.

Slough Conservative Association Business Forum aims to provide just that, and our mission is simple:

“To provide a voice for the Slough business community, so that it can contribute to the prosperity and cohesion of a 21st Century Slough”.
